    In addition, when the large typhoon and rain events occurred in the past, a large amount of soil and rock brought by the upper reaches of Dahan River caused the turbidity of Shimen Reservoir and Dahan River water sources to soar, exceeding the treatment capacity of the water purification field, resulting in serious water shortages in Taoyuan area and Banxin area, such as when Typhoon Avery hit in 93 years of the Republic of China, resulting in a water shortage in Taoyuan area for 18 consecutive days, which had a great impact on people's livelihood inconvenience and industrial investment willingness.
    The old river channel of Zhongzhuang is located 2 kilometers on the left bank of the upstream of Yuanshan Weir, and the early Dahan River basin is divided into two waterways at 2.7 kilometers downstream of Wuling Bridge, one is the main river channel of Dahan Creek at present, and the other is the waste river channel of Zhongzhuang, and it flows in front of Yuanshan Weir. The Adjustment Pond Project (Phase I) is to use the Zhongzhuang waste river channel to construct an artificial lake with an effective reservoir capacity of about 4.92 million tons, which can store the remaining water of Dahan River after completion, and supply about 24,000 cubic meters of water per day to the Danan and Banxin Water Purification Works during normal periods, so as to increase the normal water supply capacity of Taoyuan and Banxin areas. In addition, when the sand discharge period of Shimen Reservoir affects the water supply of the downstream Yuanshan Weir, the sand discharge restriction of the reservoir can be reduced, and a backup water source can be provided to make a large amount of sand discharge from the reservoir unhindered, so as to promote the activation of the Shimen Reservoir and reduce the cost of developing new water sources.
